10 Best Upholstery Jobs
At North Gold Coast Upholstery, we were inundated with the most amazing upholstery jobs throughout the year – upholstery that was both unique and also, often, completely custom. But which were the best upholstery jobs?
Although there were so many to choose from, we have narrowed down the list to our top 10 upholstery jobs for the year – some due to their complexity and others just for the joy they brought in being asked to do the work, and then seeing it in place.
Take a look at the upholstery work that we loved…
Best Upholstery Job – Number 10
Wall panel upholstery for a variety of projects to include caravan upholstery and kindergarten room upholstery
Custom wall panel upholstery is gaining popularity as customers start to understand it’s ability to transform a space. Wall panel upholstery can be utilised in many different applications, to include
-caravan and motor homes where the panels are able to be placed over dated walls and also add a soft, padded finish to a space
-to add a decorative feature to rooms in offices and kindergartens, where shape and colour can be easily injected into a space, at a low cost
The options and applications for wall panel upholstery are extensive and we have worked on an array of jobs over the years. For more information on wall panel upholstery and the type of work we offer, click here.
Best Upholstery Job – Number 9
Custom commercial seating for Outcast Clothing Head Office
The custom commercial upholstery we completed for the epic new Outcast Clothing offices in Burleigh was a standout this year. Completed in the softest beige vinyl, the seating and backrests all incorporated soft curves to suit this beautifully designed space. We’re sure that the staff will enjoy using this upholstery and we were so proud to add this to the list of commercial upholstery projects we completed on the Gold Coast this year.
Best Upholstery Job – Number 8
Custom indoor daybed seating
The popularity of daybed and custom indoor seating upholstery has really increased over the past 12 months. We were fortunate to work on at least 10 projects that involved huge indoor daybed upholstery or custom seating areas in cabana style set ups. We are seeing more and more families create huge, custom seating spaces that better suit their lifestyle and are incorporating these designs into renovations and new builds. At North Gold Coast Upholstery, we are able to work with these customers to custom cut foam and supply upholstery for all of their daybed and custom seating briefs.

Custom cushion upholstery for Marriott hotel in Brisbane
Best Upholstery Job – Number 6
Custom piano seat upholstery in vintage Japanese fabric
This gorgeous piano seat was a joy to redo. After stripping the old cover, new foam and padding was added to plush the seat base back up. Then it was time to template new covers for the seat and internal storage area. Working with a one of a kind piece of vintage material meant that I only had once chance to do the job right – which meant lots of planning as to how to best template and how to fit all the required elements that needed to be cut and covered. The addition of an internal storage shelf cover and hinge between seat and base finished off the seat beautifully.
Best Upholstery Job – Number 5
Retro curved outdoor booth seating upholstery
Similar to Number 8, this job was another custom upholstery seating space in a home being renovated in Palm Beach on the Gold Coast. As a result of the curves and retro style finish though, we decided it needed a mention unto itself. The upholstery of this huge indoor/outdoor seating was such a fun job to work on. The curved seat bases, coupled with the rolled backs that were upholstered in a textured outdoor Warwick Fabric looked fantastic and gave the owners a completely customised seating space that opened up onto their newly renovated pool area.
Best Upholstery Job – Number 4
Gaming bumper upholstery for portable casino gaming tables
Who knew that portable casino gaming tables needed upholstery…? After being contacted by one of Brisbane’s larger gaming companies, I helped to reupholster a number of the bumpers on their portable gaming tables, just in time for the Christmas party rush. Whilst they look simple, getting the templates perfect and wrapping them so they sat straight and without wrinkles was more of a challenge than anticipated. I love working on these kinds of jobs, that continue to prove to me that upholstery is required for so many elements in life.
Best Upholstery Job – Number 3
Custom wall canopy upholstery and Jewellery display boards for By Charlotte
Best Upholstery Job – Number 2
Pleated and buttoned boat seat upholstery
The upholstery of these custom boat seats was an epic feat. Covered in pebble grain charcoal vinyl, these seats incorporated a pleated finish with custom covered pull through buttons, with the cover then being stapled down to substrate timber backs. The interior foam was very soft, creating a pillowy look where the seams were meant to softly flow into each of the gaps. The transformation of these seats was incredible (vs how they looked when we first received them) and we were so excited to show the owner how his custom boat seat upholstery turned out.
Best Upholstery Job – Number 1
Custom sunken lounge seating for Jai Vasicek
It was with immense pride that we were asked to upholstery the custom sunken lounges for Jai Vasicek’s incredible house in Newrybar (Byron Bay hinterland). The first lounge used exclusive, custom printed fabric with Jai Vasicek’s own design on it, and features as the center point of the entire first floor of the house. Sitting at a huge 5m x 5m, this custom sunken lounge upholstery was incredible to work on.
The second sunken lounge area sits adjacent to the first, but serves as a more casual space in the house. The upholstery for this sunken lounge was produced from a vintage Indian throw that Jai had purchased on his travels. It took a huge amount of time to work out how to cut the single blanket into 2 seats and 4 backrests, ensuring that the placement of the pattern matched the design brief. The addition of chunky piping and throw cushions resulted in a really beautiful, completely customised sunken lounge space that we adore.
