Kim Bennett, owner and operator of North Gold Coast Upholstery was awarded third place in Handmade business at the 2025 AusMumpreneur Awards this week. She was also a finalist in the ‘One To Watch’ and ‘Service Excellence’ categories.

Created by sisters Peace Mitchell and Katy Garner, the AusMumpreneur Awards celebrate the achievements of Australian mums in business across a wide range of categories, including business excellence, product innovation, customer service, sustainability, and
technology.

“There are so many incredible women right across Australia balancing motherhood and entrepreneurship, and these awards are a chance to share their stories and celebrate their
success,” adds Katy Garner.

North Gold Coast Upholstery is the Gold Coast’s highest consumer rated upholstery business. With a focus on quality and customer service, North Gold Coast Upholstery has grown rapidly under owner operator, Kim Bennett.

Working across both the private and commercial sectors, North Gold Coast Upholstery has completed upholstery work for some of the biggest restaurants, offices and hotels and private homes across Brisbane, Gold Coast and Northern NSW.

Kim is excited to have been awarded bronze at the AusMumpreneur Awards and is proud of her achievements in the last few months, to include also being announced as the winner of the Quality Business Awards in the category of Upholstery, and is a finalist in the 2025 local business awards (being announced in September).

There are many benefits to having a local business, Kim explains, “Being a local business means you’re not just serving customers, you’re building relationships within your own community. I get to see my work every day, whether it’s in a local restaurant, a family home, or a resort down the road. There’s a real sense of pride in knowing I’ve contributed to the spaces people live, relax, and celebrate in. Supporting local also creates a ripple effect – when customers choose me, they’re helping to grow the Gold Coast economy and keep skills and craftsmanship alive in our region.”

It can be challenging to be a successful business woman whilst raising a family and Kim gives this advice for others thinking about starting their own enterprise. “Don’t wait for the perfect moment, it doesn’t exist. If you have the passion, back yourself and start small. Juggle what you can, be kind to yourself, and remember that consistency matters more than perfection. I started my upholstery business as a side business while working full time and raising a family, and over time it grew into something far bigger than I imagined. It’s proof that you don’t need to have it all figured out to begin…you just need the courage to take the first step.”

Thanks to support from Business Events Victoria, this year’s prestigious event was held in regional Victoria for the first time, showcasing Geelong as a thriving hub for innovation, creativity, and women-led business.

“This event offered women an opportunity to find connection, support and inspiration while also celebrating their success with others who understand the journey of business and parenting.” explains co-founder Peace Mitchell.
