Sunken lounge upholstery for Jai Vasicek

It was with immense pride that we were asked to upholster not one, but 2 custom sunken lounges for Jai Vasicek’s incredible house in Newrybar (Byron Bay hinterland).

Sunken Lounge Upholstery – Area 1

The first lounge used exclusive, custom printed fabric with Jai Vasicek’s own design on it, and features as the center point of the entire first floor of the house. Sitting at a huge 5m x 5m, this custom sunken lounge upholstery was incredible to work on.

Featuring high density foam base cushions, tapered foam backs with a rolled top, and a double layer of dacron laminated to all foam to create an incredibly plush, comfortable, relaxing space.

This custom sunken lounge upholstery is often featured in Jai’s social posts, as the backdrop for where he creates his magical works of art.

Sunken Lounge Upholstery – Area 2

The second sunken lounge area sits adjacent to the first, but serves as a more casual space in the house. The upholstery for this sunken lounge was produced from a vintage Indian throw that Jai had purchased on his travels. As a single, one of a kind blanket, the pressure was on – we had one opportunity to get it right, with perfect measurements, cuts and placement of pattern. There was no more material on hand and no second chances with this… phew!

It took a huge amount of time to work out how to cut the single blanket to create a full custom sunken lounge area, comprised of 2 large seats and 4 backrests, ensuring that the placement of the pattern matched the design brief. But the time was worth it, with the end result turning out so beautifully. The addition of chunky piping and throw cushions resulted in a really beautiful, completely customised sunken lounge space that we adore.

We are incredibly honoured to have been invited by Jai to work on these 2 sunken lounge projects. As an very well known and respected artist, with an incredibly beautiful house, the trust Jai put on us to produce work he loved and was happy to have in his living space, was a privilege.
